Get to Know Our Donors

We know that choosing a sperm donor is a huge step, and we’re here to make it easier for you. That’s why every donor has a personal profile that goes beyond the basics like health and sperm quality, allowing you to get to know them on a deeper level.

Our donors share their stories through interviews and detailed questionnaires. They also select childhood photos and write a personal letter for you. We combine all their input with our own impressions of them to create unique profiles that reflect their character and values.

Some donors also involve friends and family to provide an even more authentic and nuanced picture of who they are.

To help you find the right donor for your family, we offer full extended profiles for all donors—whether ID release or no ID release.

You can view all profiles completely free – just log in and select your treatment country.

Do you need personal guidance? Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions About Treatment with Donor Sperm

  • What is the difference between an ID Release Donor and a No ID Release Donor?

When selecting a sperm donor to start your family, you may have the option to choose between an ID release donor or a no ID release donor, depending on the regulations in your treatment country. Here’s what each option means:

    ID release donor:

An ID release donor allows the donor-conceived person to request their contact details once they come of age, depending on the regulations in the treatment country. Afterward, they can decide for themselves whether they want to make contact or not.

    No ID release donor:

A no ID release donor cannot be contacted by the donor-conceived person at any time. While we retain the donor's identity, this information remains confidential. However, we still offer full donor profiles for no ID release donors. This category was previously referred to as closed or anonymous donors.

Before making a decision, we recommend checking the specific regulations in your treatment country. If you have any questions or need guidance, we’re always here to help - just reach out.

  • What Do Max 25 and Max 75 Mean?

At Born Donor Bank, we have set worldwide family limits of max 25 and 75 families pr. donor.

Max 25: A donor with this limit can help 25 families worldwide.

Max 75: A donor with this limit can help 75 families worldwide.

We have set these global limits on the number of families per donor, in addition to the nationally implemented limits, because we are committed to full transparency and ethical practices, and we genuinely want to make a difference for your family.

According to the research article "Evolving Minimum Standards in Responsible International Sperm Donor Offspring Quota" an international working group was established with the aim of making recommendations on the number of families a sperm donor can help worldwide. Considerations from genetic, psychosocial, operational and ethical points of view were debated, and the consensus was that the number should never exceed 100 families.

We've used this article to inform our decision on setting worldwide family limits of max 75 and 25. The 25-family limit helps keep sibling groups smaller, while the 75-family limit provides a more affordable option to meet different client needs. In some regions, we even offer one-family limits, ensuring flexibility and choice.

Unlike other sperm banks, we set fixed global family limits, rather than just providing an estimated total donor usage. We also closely monitor donors to ensure they donate exclusively through us, as per their agreements.

You can always find a donor’s worldwide family limit displayed on their profile on our website.

  • I am single – can I become a mother by using a sperm donor?

Yes, absolutely. Whether you're single or in a couple, you can order sperm from us to help you conceive. However, regulations can vary depending on your treatment country, so we always recommend checking the specific rules that apply to you. If you need any guidance, we’re more than happy to help you find the right donor.

If you’re considering becoming a single mother by choice, we’ve put together some helpful advice to support you on your journey:

  • I am struggling with selecting a donor - what can I do?

Choosing the right donor for your family can feel like a big decision, but there’s no right or wrong way to go about it—just what feels right for you.

At Born, we offer extended donor profiles with detailed information about health, physical traits, education, values, and more. You’ll also find a baby photo—often, there are several—along with the profile.

Taking your time to read through these profiles can be a great way to explore your options and find the best match for you.

Check out our full donor catalogue here.

  • Can I contact the donor in the future, and if so, how?

Contact options depend on whether the donor is an ID release donor or a no ID release donor, but only the donor-conceived person has the right to access the donor's identity.

If you were conceived using sperm from an ID release donor from our sperm bank, you can request identifying information about your donor once you reach the legal age set by the regulations in your treatment country.
